Waltham Forest Council Of Mosques Statement
WFCOM on behalf of the Muslim Community of Waltham Forest sends its condolences to the family of Mayor, and former Leader, Cllr Chris Robbins and the Council.
We were saddened to hear the news but are consoled and share in the positive sentiments and memories many others have expressed.
WFCOM has had a long and fruitful relationship with Chris over the years. Indeed, it was Chris, as Leader of the Council, who officially engaged with WFCOM on a formal basis setting up regular meetings in which we discussed and resolved many issues.
He was forthright, engaging and above all a local who cared about the locals. Just before the pandemic outbreak he attended and spoke, in his Mayoral capacity, at the WFCOM Annual Dinner. For many of us that may have been the last time we saw him but his vibrant message of encouragement for local activism and unity is a fitting tribute to how he should be remembered.
On the occasion of his passing, let us all remember Cllr Robbins with dignity and in a manner befitting the remarkable attributes of his life through a renewal of our own commitment towards the ideals he lived for. We should emulate his compassion, kindness and the genuine drive of passion that adorned his character, for the betterment of the Waltham forest family, as we move forward and continue to strengthen our collaboration with the Council knowing this is part of Chris’ legacy and always will be.
We again take this opportunity to express our heartfelt sympathies to all his loved ones.
