In light of The Muslim Vote (TMV) circulating a flyer referencing WFCOM, we (WFCOM) would like to clarify our position on the upcoming local elections.
Firstly, for the record, although the TMV flyer shows our publicly available pledges (per above), we were not involved in the production of this leaflet and we have not publicly endorsed any party.
However, we have maintained that people should make informed choices based on the candidates.
Gaza Genocide
This one issue is the ultimate crime of our age and its importance cannot be over emphasised.
It acts as moral barometer by which we can assess politicians and their worthiness for our support.
Integrity and justice is not optional but a prerequisite for any elected official.
The Green party leadership have shown moral clarity on this issue, which is why TMV have been endorsing many of their candidates.
We also believe those candidates in other parties who have supported the Palestinian cause also deserve recognition.
It is especially noteworty when it means going against their Party leadership to stand on the side of the oppressed and not the oppressors.
Below is a list of those brave candidates:
Labour Party
Kischa Green, Cann Hall ward
Keith Rayner, Cann Hall ward
Naheed Asghar, Cathall ward
Gerry Lyons, Lea Bridge ward
Shabana Dhedhi, Lea Bridge ward
Jennifer Whilby, Lea Bridge ward
Johar Khan, Markhouse ward
Sharon Waldron, Markhouse ward
Yusuf Patel, Upper Walthamstow ward
Independent
Rhiannon Eglin, Leyton ward
Most of the major parties have responded to our election pledges and you can read their responses here.
